5 Reasons Riders Keep Buying This Copper Bracelet For Throttle Wrist

If you ride, you already know the feeling.

Two hours in and your right hand is the first thing to go. The ache runs from the base of your thumb up into the forearm, and it's still there when you take the glove off at the services. Throttle wrist. Every rider we've ever spoken to has a version of it.

This bracelet exists because of a conversation in a car park at a local bike meet.

MAKING COPPER JEWELRY SINCE 2006

20 YEARS, SAME FAMILY, SAME STANDARDS

1. It Started In A Car Park At A Bike Meet.

We were there because we ride. That’s it — a local meet, bikes and coffee in a car park on a Sunday.

And the conversation kept landing in the same place. Wrists. One rider held his hand out flat and it was still shaking from the ride over. Another had been to the doctor about his thumb. A third had given up on a run to the coast because of what the last hour did to him. Same story, over and over, from people who’d never met each other.

I knew it too. Right hand holds a constant twist for hours, takes the vibration straight up through the bar, never gets to rest.

We already made jewelry, and we’d been working with magnets since 2006. So I started reading about copper — people have worn it against the skin for a very long time and I wanted to know why. Putting the two together just made sense.

So we went back to the bench and built a copper bracelet. Not just any copper bracelet — ours has magnets in it, and the combination is what makes it ours.

2. We’ve Worked With Copper Since 2006

If you’ve never worn copper, here’s the short version. People have worn it against the skin for thousands of years — long before anyone was selling it online. It’s one of those things that keeps coming back, across cultures that never met each other. We’re not going to tell you what it will do for you. We will tell you that if you’re going to wear it, it should be the real thing.

And most of what’s sold online isn’t. They will be a cheap base metal with a thin copper coating. Within a week you’ll wish you’d bought from someone who does this properly.

We’ve been doing this since 2006. The coating sellers come and go every couple of years. We’re still here.

3. Twenty Years Of Getting The Magnets Right.

This is the part most brands never think about. Most copper bracelets have a couple of magnets dropped into the clasp so the box can say “magnetic”. That isn’t what we do.

We’ve been setting magnets into our bracelets since 2006, and the honest version of that story is that it took us years to get the balance right.

Too weak and there’s no point putting them in at all. Too strong and the band pulls at itself and sits heavy on the wrist all day. The strength, the spacing and the number of magnets are the three things we’ve spent two decades adjusting — and we’ve changed our own design more than once when riders told us something wasn’t sitting right.

What we landed on: neodymium magnets — the strongest permanent magnet material made — set into the links along the full length of the band rather than clustered in the clasp. That means even contact right the way around the wrist, on both sides, instead of one heavy spot that shifts as your hand moves.

Why the wrist in particular? Because on a bike it’s the joint doing the most work with the least rest, and it’s the easiest place on the body to keep something in constant, gentle contact with the skin for hours at a time without you noticing it’s there. That’s the whole idea: copper and magnets against the skin, evenly, for the length of a ride.

Magnetic therapy is a traditional practice rather than a medical treatment, and we won’t tell you what it will do for you. What we can tell you is that riders keep coming back for another one — and that’s the only evidence we’ve ever gone on.

Willis Judd has specialized in copper and magnetic jewelry since 2006. It’s not a category we moved into. It’s the only one we’ve ever worked in.

4. Why We Picked Copper

Element 29. The first metal humans ever worked — eleven thousand years ago, before bronze, before iron.

It's one of the essential trace minerals your body needs. There's copper in every tissue you have — your blood, your bones, your nerves. It isn't foreign to you.

That's why we picked it. We've had twenty years to change our minds and we haven't.

5. Buy Once. Buy The Best.

The first run was a small one, mostly for the riders we'd met at our bike meetups. We've been sending them out to riders ever since.

What we didn't expect is how often the same people come back. They buy a second one for the other wrist, or for a riding mate, or for a father who's been on bikes for fifty years. We see the same surnames and the same delivery addresses come round again.

That doesn't happen to most brands in this category, because most of them don't last long enough.

You've probably seen the adverts. "Closing down." "Final clearance." "Everything must go." Those shops weren't there six months ago and they won't be there in six months' time — the same stock reappears under a new name, with a new closing-down sale, a few weeks later.

So take your time. Read the reviews — thousands of them, on our site and on Amazon. Willis Judd has been family run since 2006 and ships worldwide.

We're not going anywhere, and we're not having a closing down sale.
